Companies Office achieves 24-hour online access


Plans by the Companies Office to streamline its service were hampered by the sheer volume of millions of paper records as well as many precious historic documents.

Compounding the problem, nine different regional offices held the records of all businesses originally registered in their areas. Answering requests for the records from elsewhere in the country meant a costly and time-consuming process of couriering.

Over the last nine years, Desktop Imaging has been responsible for digitising the Office’s records, partly on-site and partly offsite, successfully capturing and converting many millions of images to PDF.

This ensured the Companies Office system was in line with modern global standards and enabled it to focus its operations on just three sites – Wellington, Auckland and Christchurch – where the digital documents are now the business’s legal records.

Round the clock access is now available via the internet, which means substantially reduced workloads and turnaround times for people requesting files.
