Microform Records
Microfilm can't be beaten as a method for long-term preservation because:
- It’s eye legible (a magnifying glass helps) It requires no form of electrical or mechanical storage, and
- It will last for hundreds of years without modification if properly stored.
However, microforms are slow to access, can only be used by one person at a time and are often stored in a single location. Digitising microform presents all the options and advantages your business would expect from digitised paper records, and you get to keep the ultimate back ups as well.
We can offer work from one frame right through to several million frames.
Desktop Imaging offers a wide range of microform scanning services that includes all formats:
- High speed bi-tonal (black and white) and grayscale scanning of 16mm and 35mm microfilm
- High speed bi-tonal and grayscale scanning of microfiche including COM, and jacketed fiche
- High speed bi-tonal and grayscale scanning of single and double chip aperture cards including automatic reading of Hollerith (punched code) data, and
- Step and repeat scanning of 35mm and 16mm microfilm, aperture cards and fiche.

Desktop Imaging: scanning microforms since 1997
Desktop Imaging can work with most file types of images in black and white as well as greyscale format. We offer two best of breed scanners that provide high volume processing of images from rollfilm, microfiche, aperture cards and other modes. It’s not just the scanner that delivers the optimal quality: our expert staff can produce quality images from a wide range of source material and are unsurpassed in scanning poor quality microforms. Our ability to render a decent image from very poor density input cements us at the top of the class in microform scanning, meaning more efficient options for your business in less time.
Our work can be tailored for quick delivery over the Internet or as larger, print-quality files.
